Therapeutic hypothermia in cardiac arrest

In this retrospective cohort of out of hospital cardiac arrest victims, survival and neurological outcomes were evaluated before and after the initiation of an induced hypothermia protocol. Both outcome measures were better in the post-protocol period compared to the pre-protocol period, but only in the ventricular fibrillation subgroup (not for PEA or asystole). Induced hypothermia may improve survival and neurological outcomes in patients with Vfib arrest (abstract).
