In this large pre-post study, chlorhexidine bathing (versus regular bathing) was associated with significantly lower rates of CLA-BSIs (reduced from 6.4 to 2.6 / 1000 line days; relative risk 0.42, 95% CI 0.25 to 0.68). This rate was sustained in the post-intervention phase (where bathers were not overseen by study personnel) at 2.9 / 1000 line days. Chlorhexidine bathing is well tolerated and effective in reducing CLA-BSI rates (abstract)
