No benefit of albumin in uncomplicated SBP

Previous studies have found lower mortality and renal failure in patients with SBP given IV albumin, but it is unclear if all patients benefit. This retrospective analysis found no benefit of albumin in those at low risk (bun<11 and bilirubin <~4 mg/dL), but did find a benefit in those at high risk (bun>11 or bilirubin >~4 mg/dL). Albumin should not be given to SBP patients with normal BUN and bilirubin (abstract)
