In this large retrospective analysis of the NHSN (formerly NISS), rates of symptomatic UTI from 1990 to 2007 were reduced in all ICU types, by between 19% and 67%, with no significant change in catheter utilization rates. This is encouraging that as catheter rates decrease, then CA-UTI rates will decline even further (abstract)
